THE TWO-HEADED CALF
Tomorrow when the farm boys find this
freak of nature, they will wrap his body
in newspaper and carry him to the museum.
But tonight he is alive and in the north
field with his mother. It is a perfect
summer evening: the moon rising over
the orchard, the wind in the grass.
And1 as he stares into the sky, there
are twice as many stars as usual.
IL VITELLO A DUE TESTE
Domani i contadini troveranno
lo scherzo di natura, e avvolto il corpo
nel giornale, al museo lo porteranno.
Ma questa notte esso è vivo e nel campo
del norde con sua madre. È una perfetta
sera d’estate: la luna che sorge
sul frutteto, nell’erba il vento. E mentre
esso affonda lo sguardo in cielo, brillano
lassù due volte più stelle del solito.
